About this item
This 21-hour course teaches professional environment art creation for games using industry-standard tools. Instructor Emiel Sleegers, a lead environment artist with over 13 years of AAA game industry experience including work on Forza Horizon 3 and The Division, guides you through creating a complete post-apocalyptic game environment from concept to final result.
The course covers modular modeling, procedural and unique texturing, decal creation, composition, level art, and lighting. You'll use Maya for modeling, Substance Designer and Substance Painter for material creation, and Unreal Engine for level building and assembly. The curriculum spans 55 videos organized into digestible chapters, starting with reference planning and blockout creation, then progressing through asset finalization, material mastering, UV layout, texture application, decal placement, foliage creation using Speedtree, and terrain painting. Bonus sections cover integrating Megascans assets.
The course assumes intermediate familiarity with 3D modeling and texturing software. While all techniques are explained in detail, prior exposure to Maya, Substance tools, Speedtree, and Unreal Engine is recommended. The techniques taught are universal and applicable to most environment creation projects beyond the post-apocalyptic aesthetic shown.
