Overview

MRMO-CRT is a shader-based CRT emulation tool for Blender that recreates the distinctive look and feel of cathode-ray tube displays. The shader works in both Eevee and Cycles render engines and accepts image, video, and procedural texture inputs. It is contained within a single customizable node group with exposed property sliders for controlling scale, aspect ratio, distortion, hue, saturation, and other CRT parameters. The shader is set to emit light by default, functioning as a real light emitter in Cycles rendering.

The package is available in multiple tiers to suit different needs and workflows. The Basic version includes the CRT shader in a foundational scene with customizable barrel distortion via modifiers. The Lite version offers the same core shader with simplified image processing for faster performance on less powerful hardware. The Deluxe version provides a complete render-ready setup featuring a CRT monitor model, customizable HDRI lighting, reflections, and adjustable dust and fingerprint effects, along with three preset camera angles.

Additional implementations are included: TriCRTops offers professional-grade progressive scan CRT emulation with its own monitor model, while MRMO-CRT-GEO uses Blender’s geometry nodes for an experimental, potentially more authentic CRT effect. The GEO version has also been updated with motion blur and frame stretching capabilities. The Basic and Lite versions are available for non-commercial use, while Deluxe and TriCRTops versions support both commercial and non-commercial projects. All versions permit modification for personal use but cannot be redistributed or resold.
