Underpaint Academy – Illustration Masterclass with Craig Mullins

This eight-week illustration masterclass with respected digital painter Craig Mullins covers the fundamental skills needed for high-level illustration work. Through live demonstrations, practical exercises, and in-depth lectures, students explore core topics including form and light, 3D construction and drawing, texture control, material painting, composition, and painting from imagination. The course breaks down how individual techniques build upon each other, showing how to paint loosely yet accurately and develop confident brushwork.

The course runs for 4–5 hours per week and offers two participation tiers. The critique tier, limited to 12 students and requiring intermediate-level experience, includes direct feedback on homework assignments during class sessions. The spectator tier welcomes all skill levels and allows unlimited enrollment without the homework component. Both tiers receive perpetual access to recordings and a Discord community. Students may use any digital or traditional medium; Craig provides digital paintovers and feedback.
