Complete Introduction to Environment Art
Overview
This complete introduction to environment art comprises over 25 hours of video instruction covering the full pipeline from concept to final presentation. Taught by Emiel Sleegers, a lead environment artist with over 13 years of AAA game industry experience, the course walks beginners through planning, modeling, sculpting, texturing, and lighting a complete game environment. The curriculum includes instruction in multiple software platforms—Blender, 3DS Max, and Maya for modeling, plus Substance Designer and Substance Painter for materials, and Unreal Engine 5 for assembly and finalization.
The course is structured around 61 logically organized videos covering modeling fundamentals, modular and high-to-low poly asset workflows, UV unwrapping and baking, procedural material creation, and advanced topics such as level art composition, foliage generation with SpeedTree, and portfolio documentation. All instruction includes subtitles in English, Chinese, and Spanish, and source files are provided to allow students to follow along with every step.
Students report that the course effectively covers industry-standard techniques while remaining accessible to beginners, with particular praise for how it breaks down the full environment composition process and demonstrates how individual components integrate into a cohesive scene. The multi-software approach allows learners to follow along in whichever platform they prefer.
