Max Hay – Cyber Environments Course
Overview
This course teaches you to create impressive cyberpunk and urban environments in Blender, starting from fundamental concepts and progressing through multiple real-world projects. Instructor Max Hay distills over five years of refinement into a structured learning path that covers essential workflow tips, rendering optimization, and common troubleshooting, so you can avoid the thousands of hours of trial and error he invested. The course emphasizes applying photography principles to 3D scenes to achieve realistic, naturalistic results rather than the flat, overly-rendered look that plagues many digital environments.
The curriculum includes seven detailed sections spanning from foundational techniques to advanced large-scale city creation. You’ll work through increasingly complex projects—a neon-lit cyber cube, street-level scenes, rooftop vistas, and expansive cityscapes—learning to manage emissive surfaces, lighting, composition, and scene scale at different zoom levels. The course covers practical tools like the free BLOSM addon for building layouts and demonstrates how to customize procedural generation into unique environments. A final theory section breaks down composition from professional work and addresses the creative side of improvement, motivation, and workflow optimization.
Six included asset packs provide ready-made models to accelerate your projects: the Cyberpunk Streets Pack (44 models), Industrial Pack (29 models), People Pack (5 character models), City Buildings Pack, Classic Sci-Fi Pack, and Neon Streets Pack (170 signs and props). All assets are licensed for both commercial and personal use, removing barriers to immediate production work. The course is designed for learners with foundational Blender knowledge and includes optional community access for collaboration and direct instructor feedback.
