Stylized Environments in 2D & Blender with Ulysse Verhasselt

By Underpaintacademy in Blender Included

Overview

This 8-week course teaches you how to integrate Blender 3D into a painting workflow for stylized environment design. Instructor Ulysse Verhasselt covers both 2D and 3D fundamentals, starting with stylization principles and 2D painting techniques before introducing Blender basics like modeling, texturing, and lighting. The course then progresses to painting over 3D renders, combining both approaches to achieve polished environment concept art.

Each week consists of 4–5 hours of live instruction including lectures, demonstrations, and feedback sessions. The curriculum moves logically from 2D stylization and reference analysis through 3D scene assembly and finally to the integration of painted elements over renders. Recordings are provided within 24 hours for each class, and feedback options vary by tier—you can receive live critiques or opt to spectate with lifetime access to the recordings.

All skill levels are welcome; no prior experience with 3D software or Blender is required. You’ll need access to digital painting software and Blender, which is available as a free download. The course supports both synchronous and asynchronous participation, accommodating different schedules.
